GUINNESS CAMEROON SPONSORS 2016 MOUNT CAMEROON RACE OF HOPE…. makes heroes once again

Buea once again lent its legendary hospitality last Saturday, 27th February, to the 21st Guinness Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.

The days before, Buea town and surroundings witnessed big animations with in-bar activations around the Black List competition, as well as the mobile carnival that all led to the opening ceremony on Friday 26th. One thing that consistently came out of speeches from the Mayor of Buea, the Managing Director of Guinness Cameroon, the President of Athletics Federation and his Excellency the Minister of Sports and Physical education, is the common will to maintain and develop Mount Cameroon Race Of Hope as a cultural heritage, and thus to create a sports event of reference in Africa.

The 2016 Edition of Guinness Mount Cameroon Race of Hope was thus opened, followed by blessings from traditional chiefs, parade from various delegations, traditional fights etc.


The Guinness Mount Cameroon Race of Hope which is an annual televised footrace was categorized in 3 phases which include youngsters’ race of 19km, a veterans race for a distance of 5km and the main race which is ran over 38km. In total, it’s an envelope of 47 million that was offered by Guinness Cameroon to the winners in each category.

The biggest surprise came from Simplice Ndungeh, who arrived first and thus offered the Gold medal of senior category to the South West region, that was awaiting this moment for long. He was immediately followed by former winners of the Race, Gabsibuin Godlove (2015 winner) and Mbacha Eric (2014 winner). In the senior female, Yvonne Ngwaya succeeded to reiterate her 2015 exploit by arriving first.

While CRTV and Canal 2 International were ensuring live coverage, people on site also enjoyed lots of animations with music performances from Tata Kingue, Mr Leo, Ben Decca and Sergeo Polo, badminton demonstrations etc.

Communications Manager, Guinness Cameroon S.A., Vanessa Lengue while expressing her profound happiness thanked the sponsors of this year’s race as well as the whole organization committee that made it possible. . Lengue said “From Guinness Cameroon’s perspective, we are happy that this year’s race was held successfully without mishaps and heroes have been made. We will continually find ways to give back to the community as we are committed to building a better, healthier and fitter Cameroon”

Commenting on the performance of the athletes as well as the partnership with Guinness Cameroon S.A., President of the Cameroon Athletics Federation, Emmanuel Motombi Mbome, said the federation is elated about the event as Guinness Cameroon has always demonstrated its unique passion and support for athletics in Cameroon. According to Mbome, “Guinness Cameroon S.A. has continued to create opportunities for our local talents to shine. We are excited about this continuous partnership with Guinness to ensure the inherent resilient spirit in our talents rises to greater achievements both at local and global competitions”.
