AFCON 2019: CAF President accuses, Issa Hayatou set the record straight

The Board Chair of National Football Academy,ANAFOOT and former CAF President, Issa Hayatou has reacted to affirmations made by his Successor, Ahmad Ahmad concerning Cameroon\’s readiness to host the 2019 AFCON.

Issa Hayatou in an interview with CRTV reporters wondered aloud how Ahmad Ahmad can fairly judge Cameroon\’s level of preparations two years before the event.

He contends that if it were the Africa Nations Cup for sixteen countries, Cameroon could have been capable of hosting as early as this August 2017, because there are five stadia ready and good hotels.

The  former CAF Head  mentioned the two heavy capacity stadia under construction in the cities of Yaounde and Douala, the Limbe Stadium, the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam and the renovated Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium all homologated by CAF as good arguement to prove the case in favour of Cameroon.

To him, Cameroon posses infrastructure and facilities that many African countries do not have, thus the claims by CAF hierarchy are deceitful.

He went further to insinuate that, the CAF President\’s  decision to send an independent inspection team to Cameroon  from 20-28 August 2017 and not CAF officials has an undertone.

« Cameroon successfully organised the 2016 Women AFCON and has a rich history in football with record breaking participations in World Cup and other sporting domains »  Mr. Issa added.

Issa Hayatou was joining his voice to that of  the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT to express indignation at  Mr. Ahmad Ahmad\’s affirmation.
